More Volunteers Required!
If you're passionate about space and space exploration, and don't mind getting your hands dirty, we need you! We're looking to expand our elite group of enthusiastic and dedicated volunteers to help design, build, and launch a new generation of British rockets.
Starchaser needs people who are hardworking, technically gifted and can operate as part of a close-knit, integrated team. Although we do not have the budgets associated with traditional state-funded
space programmes we have developed an incremental approach to R&D in pursuit of our goal of 'affordable access to space'. As a Starchaser volunteer you'll be part of an amazing project, sharing ideas, and gaining hands-on practical experience in something that most people can only dream of.
Based in Hyde, near Manchester, Starchaser Industries have been developing and launching rockets since the mid 90s and in 2001 we launched the largest rocket ever to have flown from the UK. Over the last few of years, work has focused on propulsion with a number of successful static test firings of both bi-liquid and hybrid rocket engines. We're now pushing forward with further development and flight testing. In order to achieve our objectives we must attract the very best talent; people who are both qualified in their respective fields but who also seek to challenge the status-quo and want to be part of an exciting project focused on putting Britain into space.
If you want to be part of something different and make a real contribution, we definitely want to hear from you.
Volunteers wanted in the following areas:
- Rocket propulsion
- Guidance, navigation & control
- Mechanical systems
- Project Management
- General office skills
- Sponsorship development & management
- Marketing and PR
Starchaser Industries is a privately held, high technology group of companies that specialises in the development, operation and commercialisation of space related products and services.
Starchaser Industries enables new space related business opportunities by providing safe, reliable, affordable and reusable access to space for both the space tourism and micro-satellite launch markets.
Starchaser Industries UK has been one of, possibly the only, European space tourism related company to achieve significant private venture investment and significant commercial sponsorship which has
funded real development and tests of technology rather than paper studies that are the hallmark of
the less mature companies trying to establish a presence in this market.
Founded in 1992 by current CEO Steve Bennett, Starchaser Industries is staffed by a highly skilled, innovative and motivated workforce.
Starchaser Industries is working on two concepts for the purpose of Space Tourism. The near term objective is the creation of a 3 person reusable space capsule called Thunderstar which will be used for sub-orbital flights in excess of 100km. The second system is a vertically launched 8 seat sub-orbital space plane that could be upgradeable for orbital applications.
Both the capsule and the space plane design feature pressurised environments where the occupants will be further protected by means of Russian Sokol derived spacesuits. Both spacecraft will also be fitted with a Launch Escape System (LES); the capsule will make use of a tower system whereas the space plane will utilise a system located to the aft of the vehicle.
All critical systems will be automated and protected by redundant back up systems. Taking the above safety features into account, the survivability from a catastrophic failure of hardware is considered close to 100% and significantly higher than that offered by contemporary Space Tourism systems.
